NO LIMIT TEXAS HOLD’EM
Dealer (players take turns at duties) determined by washing cards on table,
high card will determine dealer blinds begin to the left of dealer.
- Posting the Blinds
there are no antes in Texas Hold'em instead, forced bets called "blinds" are used. before the cards are dealt, the person to the left of the dealer posts a bet called the small blind, which is half of the minimum bet. The player to the left of the small blind posts the big blind.
- Shuffle and Deal
Dealer duties are determined by a high card draw. Cards are "washed" and each player draws. Dealer duties pass from player to player clockwise around the table. The dealer thoroughly shuffles the cards and offers a cut to the player at his/her immediate right. Only conventional cuts are allowed with one separation and more than one card required to either the top or bottom. Any player may request a cut at anytime (or a new deck). Two cards are dealt facedown to each player, one at a time, in a clockwise direction, starting with the player on the dealer's immediate left. The two facedown cards are also know as "hole" or "pocket cards." The five face up cards to be revealed are known as "community cards." the player who makes the best five card poker hand with any combination of hole cards and community cards wins the hand.
-Pre-Flop Betting
Betting begins with the first player to the left of the big blind. Each player has the opportunity to “call” (meet the bet that has been placed), “raise” (increase the original bet) or “fold” (remove themselves from the hand). If any one player raises, each person thereafter, will have the same opportunity to call, raise or fold. Bets, raises or re-raises can be any amount equal to or greater than the minimum bet, or big blind.
-The Flop
Once the initial round of betting is completed the dealer discards the topmost card, or “burns a card." Then the next three cards, or “the flop” are turned face up. These are the first three community cards. Each player uses these cards with their pocket cards to make the best poker hand. Another round of betting begins with the person to the left of the dealer. Players have the option to “check” (no additional bet placed), raise, or fold. If any player raises, each player has the opportunity to call, re-raise, or fold.
-The Turn or Fourth Street
After betting is complete, the dealer burns another card. The next card is turned face up. This is known as the “turn card." Another round of betting begins with the person to the left of the dealer.
-River Card
After betting is completed, the dealer burns another card. The next card is turned face up. This is known as the “river card." The final round of betting begins with the person to the left of the dealer.
-The Show Down
After betting is completed all remaining players reveal their hands. The player with the highest ranking hand wins. In the event two or more players have the same highest ranking hand, the next highest card in each player's hand, or the “kicker," will determine the winner. In the event two, or more players share the exact same 5-card, wining hand, the pot will be split.
- Going All In
At anytime in betting a player can go “all in."This means he/she pushes all of their chips into the pot and places a “maximum bet”. If a player chooses to call the bet, he/she would need to place enough chips into the pot to equal the maximum bet. If a player wishes to call but has less chips, he/she would also go all in. The dealer then splits the first all in bet into two stacks: one that is equal to the caller's all in bet and the remaining stack going into a “side pot." The caller is not eligible for the side pot. A side pot enables the rest of the table to continue raising and re-raising as they normally would. All-in bets are settled in order of placement. The side pots are handled last.
-Folding Cards & Betting
Folded cards must be thrown to the middle of the table so they are not confused with cards in play. Players may take reasonable time to consider their bet.
-Heads Up Play
When two players are head-to-head the dealer is always the small blind and the other player is the big blind.
-Misdeals
There are no misdeals. Cards accidentally exposed by the dealer, including burn cards, extra cards dealt or dropped face up are returned to the remainder of the deck, shuffled, re-cut and the deal continues. Extra cards in a players hand will be returned by another player's blind selection. If a player holds too many hole cards after the first round of betting begins, the player's hand is dead and must folded. Additional cards may be dealt to any player, out of order, to make up a shortage of cards. It is the player's responsibility to make sure he/she has the proper number of hole cards prior to play beginning. All adjustments must be made as soon as they are discovered.
-Side Pots: In the event that a player cannot match the value of another players bet, but would still like to call, he or she can go all-in and play for a portion of the pot. Should this happen, the dealer should divide the original, larger bet into two stacks: the first stack should match the amount of the caller’s all-in bet. This stack is pushed into the original pot along with the callers all-in bet. The second stack is placed into a side pot for which the all-in caller is not eligible. This enables the rest of the table to continue play-raising and re-raising as they normally would. At the conclusion of the hand, the all-in better is eligible to win the original pot, but not the side pot. If two or more players have the same hand, the next highest card in the players hand is used to break a tie. This is called the “kicker”. If there is no kicker card and the tied players have used both hole cards, or have the exact same hand, then the pot is split between them. The dealer position then moves clockwise to the next player and another roundof play begins.
Strict Rules!
- No money of any type is ever allowed on the tables, for any reason. Betting of any kind is forbidden.
- String betting is not permitted. This occurs when a player calls a hand and then hesitates in order to see a reaction and then proceeds to raise. A player must either call or raise. A raise must be called before a bet is being built or as the total bet is placed in the bet area.
- Bets may not be touched after the pot is call "right," unless it is being moved to the pot.
- Splashing the pot is not permitted. Players placing a bet must place the chips in some orderly amnner in the area immediately in front of them. This allows the chip count to be confirmed before the bet is complete.
- Betting, raising, checking and folding should be done in order, clockwise around the table.
